THE HIGH ATLAS AND THE ANTI ATLAS WITH ITS NATIVE HABITANTS

Marrakech

Arrival at the airport – we bring you to an eco-lodge off site Marrakech to make your start of the journey as smooth and comfortable as possible. Enjoy the farm with field crops and a swimming-pool near to the lake Lalla Takerkoust.

Moulay Brahim – Ouirgane

The Ourigane Valley with its  greenery, red-earth hills and pine forests make it worth an over-night stay. It is our base  for a day walk into the surrounding foothills of Toubkal.  This lonely land was settled by the Berbers of the Haoura tribe before the introduction of Islam.

Tiz n’Test – Taroudannt

Today we cross the High Atlas over the Tiz n’Test pass with its stunning views. Our destination is  Taroudannt where we visit the old medina and the city walls of this ancient town. Over-night stay in a traditional and comfortable Riad in the Medina of Taroudannt.

Mirleft

In the afternoon we arrive at Mirleft where we check in our hotel. For sunset we head to Leghzira Beach with its fabulous sandstone arcs. A fresh caught fish at a beach restaurant will be our dinner for tonight.

Guelmim – Amtoudi

Passing Guelmim where we can see the Blue Men of a nomadic tribe of the region or a dromedary race, we arrive at late afternoon in Amtoudi. Here we stay over-night with a Berber family. This place offers many specifics as an awesome hike through a river gorge up to a swimming bassin and a climb up to an old agadir which is nearby on top of a hill. This area always provides fresh air because of being located in a river valley.

Tafraoute

Going on to Tafraoute we cross a wonderful gorge next to Ighmir and drive on to the Valley of Ammeln, a valley with its almonds blossom in springtime. Here we stay two nights, visiting the Maison Traditionelle to understand the way of living of the Berber in this region and hiking a day through the Valley of Ammeln. If a hike is not possible we do an excursion to the nearby plateau of Ait Mansour with its amazing views and the beautiful village in a gorge. Over-night stays in a charming Kasbah hotel in Tafraoute.

Tata – Foum Zguid

Our travel goes on through this amazing and weird landscape of the Anti-Atlas, wonderful and breathtaking. In the afternoon we arrive in Foum Zguid.  which is a village in a lorn swath of land with its bizarre formations of ridges in the Anti-Atlas. A nice Kasbah hotel  for our over-night stay is awaiting us with a swimming-pool to enjoy and relax.

M’hamid – Erg Chegaga

The next morning after breakfast we drive on off-road to M’hamid with destination dunes of Chegaga. Our path leads off-road through the stone desert to Erg Chegaga. We pass the Oasis Sacrée where we prepare a barbecue. After arrival at the camp and check-in for an over-night stay we climb up the dunes with dromedaries for watching sunset. The  native nomads are used to make music with their instruments, mostly drums, and we can follow their strains under a sky of stars.

Valley of Drâa – Tamegroute – Tamnougalte

Our next stop is in Tamegroute where  we take a look at the library of the ancient of the religious leaders . We also watch the traditional way of making pottery, Tamegroute is famous for both of it. After we can relax and have lunch at our friends home before we drive on to Tamnougalt where we stay over-night in an old Kasbah.

Ouarzazate film studios – Ait Benhaddou

We head further through the Drâa Valley to Ouarzazate  where we visit the film studios which have been the setting for many famous cinema films.  After diving into actors lives we go and see Ait Benhaddou, also an location for some films – and an ancient Kasbah of the Glaoui Kingdom. Over-night stay in a charming hotel in Ait benhaddou.

Telouet – Marrakech

Our travel route now follows the way back to Marrakech passing Telouet in the High Atlas, another former site of the Glaoui family. We do a short hike around and enjoy the scenery and the old Kasbah.
Late afternoon we arrive in Marrakech, the vibrant, oriental city where we spend  our last days with an exciting program: Sightseeing of the Koutoubia mosque, the Saadian Tombs and the Majorelle Gardens. Highlight is the Medina with its colorful daily life and the market place „Djema el Fna” where bargainers, storytellers, water-sellers and snake-charmers get together. Three over-night stays in an authentic, charming Riad in the Medina.
